Financial Hardship Policy

The following constitutes the financial hardship policy for online courses and continuing education programs sponsored by the National Family Violence Law Center (NFVLC).

1. The fees charged by the National Family Violence Law Center for continuing education credits reflect the NFVLC’s commitment to providing pioneering quantitative and qualitative research, training and education, policy development. and selective litigation. We are committed to providing affordable quality continuing education programs on domestic violence, child abuse, coercive control, and related topics.

2. Requests for reduced or waived fees for NFVLC’s programs shall be made in writing and submitted by email to Joan Meier (jmeier@law.gwu.edu) at the NFVLC.

3. The written request shall contain a brief statement of the economic hardship and the relief sought by the applicant. All requests made pursuant to these guidelines shall remain confidential.

4. Financial Hardship determinations will consider:

  • Nature of the requesting person’s employment (i.e., private law firm, not-for-profit, public/government service); and whether they work per diem, part-time, full-time, or by contract;
  • Requesting person’s gross annual income; People with an income of less than $50,000 will receive an 82% waiver of program fees reducing the course cost to $25.
  • Prior applications under these guidelines within the past 12 months and the result of those applications.
5. The applicant will be informed of the decision via email and if approved, provided a discount code to access the course.

6. The NFVLC reserves the right to deny relief to applicants even though they may satisfy the financial hardship criteria set forth above.
